2024 Touch Football Sydney West Championships

After 2 re-schedules of dates due to weather, the Sydney West Touch Football Championships were held at Kingsway Touch Fields last Thursday 13 June.
Castle Hill were represented across both Boys and Girls competitions. Both teams represented their respective schools and the CHPSSA with pride, humility and sportspersonship. Students should be congratulated for their behaviour on the day.
The boys team finished 2nd overall, with a narrow loss in the Grand Final. They had a draw in their first game against Ridges. However, came together to play some phenomenal Touch to win convincingly against St Mary’s, Auburn/Merrylands/Parramatta and Seven Hills/Wentworthville zones. The boys finished top of their pool on for/against through some great ball movement and effective 3-man drives. The boys played the Semi Final against Blue Mountains, winning 4-2 and qualifying for the Grand Final. They played against a formidable Mt Druitt team. Unfortunately, in the final minute of the match, Mt Druitt scored on the bell to put the score at 4-3 and win the championships. Congratulations to all members of the team who were gracious in defeat.
A further congratulations to the following students who were selected in the Sydney West Touch Football Team to play at the NSWPSSA Championships next term in Wollongong.
  • Fabrizio (Beaumont Hills)
  • Arlo (Northmead)
  • Cooper (Beaumont Hills)
The girls team started the carnival efficiently, demonstrating outstanding middle work throughout the game to win 4-0 against Hawkesbury. A bye was soon to follow, with the girls trying to stay warm in the cold conditions until their second game. They faced a strong Mt Druitt squad, pushing the pace and quickly found themselves 4-0 up ahead with little time left. Some excellent defensive displays allowed them to move onto Round 3 undefeated, which gave the squad increased confidence heading into the later rounds. Games against Parramatta and Penrith soon followed, with the Castle Hill girls keeping the defence locked down to win every game so far without conceding a try. A Semi Final with Blacktown was the next fixture, with 2 strong passing teams going head to head.
In an extremely tight game, the girls won 1-0, ultimately moving onto the Grand Final against an undefeated Ridges. In an action packed game, Castle Hill experienced relentless attacks from Ridges, allowing them space to score on the counter. In a thrilling finish, Castle Hill’s Elle M weaved her way through the defence to score the winning try just before the final buzzer to win the game 3-2 and give the Castle Hill girls their 5th Sydney West Championship in a row. An outstanding result from an outstanding squad of athletes.
A huge congratulations goes to Maddison (Excelsior), Elle (Glenhaven) and Ellie (Northmead) on their selection into the Sydney West Girls Touch Football Team who are no doubt eagerly awaiting to compete at the NSWPSSA Championships.
