Football
The recent successes of the Socceroos and Matildas, along with exciting prospects in the A-League such as the Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne City, have led to football’s increasing popularity over the last 5-10 years. This increased popularity is clearly shown at the grassroots level of the sport, and the Castle Hill PSSA is no different.
Football, or soccer, is one of the most popular PSSA sports as it can be played by both boys and girls of varying abilities and experience. 18 schools participate in the PSSA Football competition and the league is split into 2 divisions – northern and southern – dependent on a school’s location. All students not only have the opportunity to represent their school in the intra-PSSA competition, but have an opportunity to represent the CHPSSA at separate boys and girls Sydney West football carnivals. The CHPSSA has a highly successful record at both of these carnivals and there are often many students from CHPSSA schools selected to compete at higher levels.
The rules for PSSA Football mostly reflect the ‘Laws of the Game’, developed by the international governing body of football, FIFA. There are, however, slight modifications for junior football (ages 8-10) that the PSSA adheres to. These are outlined in the ‘Rules’ section of the PSSA Football page.
